Chinese New Year 2018

Chinese New Year – the biggest festival in the calendar for Chinese communities across the world – begins on Friday 16th February and ushers in the Year of the Dog. Also known as the Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year, Chinese New Year marks the beginning of the Chinese calendar, with festivities lasting for around two weeks. Not limited to mainland China, there are huge events in London’s Chinatown and other communities all over the UK.

Even if you’re not heading out and about to catch the dragon parade or watch the fireworks, celebrating Chinese New Year can be just as fun at home – as long as you have something tasty to eat! If you’re looking to prepare a delicious meal for family or friends, we’ve put together a selection of our newest Chinese dishes for you to make at home. All the following recipes are suitable for vegans.

  • Pan-fried Tofu Pot Stickers with Tamari Dipping Sauce

These crispy yet tender potsticker dumplings make an ideal side dish or starter. Filled with our delicious Marinated Tofu Pieces – along with mushrooms, grated carrot, green cabbage, spring onions and fresh ginger – simply pan-fry until golden and steam through. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and serve with a tamari dipping sauce.

Packed with Chinese flavours, this dish serves up to 12 people – ideal if you’re entertaining guests – and takes around 45 minutes to prepare and cook. See the full recipe for more details.

  • Sticky Chilli Ginger Tofu

Sweet, sticky and full of flavour, this mouth-watering recipe makes our Sweet Ginger Tofu the star of the show!

Dust with cornflour and fry until golden, then generously cover in a deeply rich sauce of garlic, ginger, rice wine and Chinese five spice. Serve with udon noodles and garnish with spring onions, red chilli and sesame seeds – delicious!

Incredibly satisfying and perfect for Chinese New Year, this dish serves 2 people and takes around 25 minutes to prepare and cook. See the full recipe for more details.

  • Salt and Pepper Tofu with Plum Mirin Dip

A Chinese takeaway favourite, you can recreate this deliciously crispy and delicately seasoned tofu at home in less than ten minutes. Take our Organic Original Tofu and dust with corn flour, Sichuan black peppercorns, black pepper and sea salt, then deep fry until golden brown and serve with a sweet plum mirin dip.
