Cooking & Storage FAQs
You can prepare block tofu very differently, depending on what you are making.
Cauldron Extra Firm Tofu is ready to cook with - just drain the pack, chop and enjoy cooked or cold.
Our Authentic Tofu block, may need pressing before use. It really depends on what you are making, as you may need to drain and press before cooking.
If you do need to press your tofu, we recommend pressing for 10 to 20 minutes – the longer you press it for, the firmer it will be, so you can press to suit your dish!
Here's four simple steps for pressing your tofu:
Drain: Carefully open the packet and gently lift the tofu out of its water bath. Discard the water.
Press: If you don't have a tofu press, wrap the block of tofu in layers of kitchen roll and place between two plates or chopping boards. Weigh the top plate down with some tins or books. Leave for around 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the firmness you need for your recipe – the longer you press it for, the firmer the texture will be.
Slice: Slice and dice your tofu according to your recipe.
Flavour: This step will depend on your dish! Tofu is very light on flavour, but its texture allows it to absorb flavours from marinades and sauces with ease. Simply marinate your tofu pieces/slices for at least 30 minutes before cooking, or ideally overnight. (Hold onto the marinade afterwards too – you can always use it in the recipe, or marinate more tofu with it.)
We'd recommend seasoning your tofu with salt, pepper or other spices before cooking to add a little extra flavour. If you’d prefer something quicker or slightly more convenient, our Marinated Tofu and Hoisin Tofu pieces and are pre-flavoured and ready to cook with.
Our Cauldron tofu blocks are ideal for use in stir-fries, soups, pies, salads, pasta and much more. It's such a versatile ingredient that you can have fun and experiment cooking with! Whether you're a tofu guru in the kitchen, or just starting out and wondering what to make, we've got some tasty recipes that you'll make time and time again!

Once a pack of Cauldron tofu has been opened, simply place the block into a plastic container, cover with cold water and store in your fridge, making sure to use by the ‘best before’ date on packs.
Storing your tofu in water helps keep it fresh and stops flavour contamination from other foods. Our top tip is to change the water daily and your tofu will last up to 3 days after opening.
Yes. You can freeze tofu, although freezing tofu does change it's colour and texture. If you do choose to freeze your tofu, it will still be perfectly safe to eat. Just make sure you freeze your tofu as soon as possible after purchase and use within one month.
When you’re ready to cook with your tofu, defrost it fully and use on the same day. Once it’s defrosted do not refreeze.
Once opened, Cauldron Falafel should be eaten within one day.
If you're not ready to eat the full pack though, pop them in the freezer on the day of purchase and they'll keep for up to one month. See back of packs for more.
