6 reasons to go veggie

At Cauldron, we make delicious meat free meals, for veggies and meat-eaters alike. But as part of the National Vegetarian Week activity, we thought it would be good to put some info about vegetarian eating, so everyone could see what the benefits are.

Some people don’t need a list of reasons why, they are vegetarians because it’s what they believe in or quite simply they don’t like the taste of meat or fish. But if, like many of us, you find yourself sitting on the fence, here are six compelling reasons to make you think

Vegetarians have a clear conscience. They know they will never eat anything that has been factory farmed or reared in appalling conditions.

Vegetarians are brainier! As proved in BBC 1’s national IQ. Challenge, Test The Nation, where a 40-strong team of veggies came out on top as the studio winners of the competition.

Vegetarians save water. It takes far less water to grow vegetarian food than to produce meat. It takes thousands more litres of water to produce a kilo of beef than to grow the same quantity of grains, vegetables or pulses.

Vegetarians are greener. Farmed animals produce more greenhouse gas emissions (18%) than our entire global transport system (13.5%). They also produce nitrous oxide and methane which are far more damaging to the climate than CO2

Vegetarians are healthier. Research has shown that vegetarians suffer less from obesity, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, type II diabetes, certain diet related cancers, diverticular disease, appendicitis, constipation and gallstones

Vegetarians have so much choice. With a huge array of delicious and healthy foods available, there has never been a better time to go meat-free.
